  • I'm living in carb city right now.  Every day this week I have eaten pb toast for breakfast, pesto pasta for lunch, and rice with curry potatoes for dinner.  I also eat dessert after every meal these days.  A danish after breakfast, cookies after lunch, and Stax chips after dinner.  2 cups of hot Milo for my evening time snack finish off the day.  Why tf do I wake up starving?
  • Before I got pregnant, I was a pretty stringent on making sure I typed with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.  Even for FB posts.  Since I've been pregnant, I've become a Judgy McJudgerson side-eyeing the shit out of everyone else's posts and e-mails.  Like, lack of capitalization makes me ragey.  I'm sorry and I realize this is my own issue.
  • I'm going to spoil the crap out of my son.  My husband and I both are.  We couldn't have been raised more differently but couldn't be more alike on how we want to raise our kid, so that's been great.  The spoiling thing is the part of it that's probably worth flaming though.
  • I don't want the baby to come out.  I like him in there, going everywhere with me, being quiet.  Plus, when he comes out, I'll be outnumbered by dudes in my house.  I just can't get used to thought of this.
  • Dale wanted to decorate the nursery in green & yellow so I went out and bought a ton of nursery items in navy & red, then made it seem like an accident.  I feel horrible.  But damned if he thinks my son is going to be "born" a Cheesehead.
  • It's getting harder and harder for me to run but I feel like it's just another challenge I'm willing to take on.  I promised myself that I would stop running when I felt the effects on my joints or my lungs, but since I haven't had any problems there yet, I don't want to stop.  The thing is, I'm afraid I'll be in denial when I DO start having issues so that I can keep running.

Linea Nigra

Pregnancy causes weird skin stuff to happen - freckles, moles, stretch marks, varicose veins, and dry skin are all common.  None of the stuff I've gotten has been bothersome or out of the ordinary to me, until now.

There is a black line running down my whole stomach y'all.

A linea nigra (which I'm sure is latin for black line) is just that.  A black line running from the belly-button down, and is caused by the placenta creating extra melanin.  Well on me, it runs from the very top of my stomach down.  And is quite unattractive.

22 Weeks

Baby is the size of a papaya.

Weight: 132 lbs.  Gained 7 so far.

Belly: High - I am still able to wear at least one pair of pre-pregnancy jeans.  Everyone keeps telling me that boys are carried low so if Paul III turns out to be Viveca Jr. then she's going to REALLY have to like sports, trucks, and dinosaurs.

Cravings: Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

Aversions: None.

Exercise: Ran 2.5 miles each on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Doctor's Appointments: My doctor asked me if I get cold sores.  I don't, so I told him that, but then I remembered that Dale does.  Dr. Toledo said that some time ago I contracted the virus that causes them but since I have such a super-human (I'm paraphrasing) immune system, they never manifest on my face.  Well then I had to jump on the opportunity to tell him that my husband ALWAYS gets sick and I NEVER get sick.  Because I'm better than him.

Symptoms: Linea Nigra

Best Moments: Setting up Paul's room with all his tiny furniture and laundering his tiny clothes.  Dale and I squealing over tiny flip flops, of which my husband then informed me that dudes don't wear Havaianas.  Ooookay.

What I Miss: Small boobs!  V-neck shirts and low cut tanks, not wearing a bra, my sternum.  Sleeping on my back and not having these things roll over the sides.  (Exaggeration, but still, you get the gist.)

Lent Update:  I skipped Mass last Sunday because I'm a lazy ass.

So you all know that I gave up shopping at Victoria's Secret for Lent.  I even unsubscribed to the e-mail updates because they were so tempting.  Well then I logged in to FB this morning and look at what the first post on my news feed is...

This looks like a fun party!

One of the good things about giving up shopping there means my eyes have opened to other stores.  Like Target.  Last week I broke down and bought a maternity dress.  It's for a party I'm going to at the end of the month, so I'm taking it for a dry run on my half-day at work today.  I most certainly look pregnant in it, even from the front.

I heard horizontal stripes were slimming.
Wow, something's bigger than my butt!

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good: So I'm laying there in bed, falling asleep, when all of a sudden I felt something strange.  I shot straight up and threw off the covers to examine what was under there.  So of course Dale shoots straight up and is like, "What?!"  And I'm like, "There's something moving in there."  And he's like, "Where?"  And I'm like, "In my belly."  And he's like, "What is it?"  WE ARE SO TOTALLY READY FOR THIS.

The Bad: Dale went out for St. Patrick's Day and I pitched a huge fit. To be fair, he has gone out a total of 3 times since I have been pregnant. Well this was the first time I was actually jealous. I missed going out, I missed dressing up in tiny clothes, and I missed drinking cheap beer out of plastic cups.  So then when he was hungover all the next day, I laughed and told him I was glad that he felt bad.  I'm terrible, I know.

The Ugly: Someone told me that my grandmother said I was fat.  Now I know I'm not skinny, I never really was, but I'm most certainly not fat. And I've been having trouble gaining weight this whole pregnancy, which has resulted in numerous doctor's appointments discussing this problem.  People say strange things to pregnant women that they wouldn't say normally, so hearing things like that the baby is ruining your life and that you hate his name are hard to hear and a little hurtful, but I am tolerant of those comments.  Telling me someone thinks I'm fat?  I'm not ashamed to admit I cried over this.  A lot.

Welcome to My Crib

Ah, grandparents are a blessing.  Especially my son's grandparents!  I had mentioned earlier how my mom and I went on a whirlwind shopping spree for the nursery.  Well believe it or not, at the same time, my mother-in-law was at Babies R Us on a secret mission to buy a crib.  Too bad she can't keep a secret!  How adorable is this?

Nursery Items

I received a giftcard as a housewarming present, and my mom and I went to Homegoods so I could buy a cake stand and look at some stuff for the house.

WELL who knew that Homegoods had a kids section?  And who knew that boys actually COULD be fun to shop for?!  My mom and I blew through it all in under an hour, and I found myself literally talking her down from buying out the entire aisle.  We spent the $100 giftcard + and additional $150 on stuff for Paul's room.  And in doing so, settled on somewhat of a colour scheme - navy, red, and green.

21 Weeks

Baby is the size of a banana.

Weight: 131 lbs.  A total gain of 6.

Belly: Heavy and slightly uncomfortable.

Cravings: None.

Aversions: None.

Exercise: Ran/walked 2.5 miles on Monday.

Doctor's Appointments: Had a checkup today, everything looks good.

Symptoms: Moles.  On my face, my back, and probably places I can't even see.  Sometimes I look in the mirror and say to myself, "Nice to mole you."

Best Moments: I finally felt Paul moving in my stomach.  It feels like little bubbles and it's really precious.  Also, Father Nadim blessed my stomach after mass on Sunday, that was touching.

What I Miss: Not being "the pregnant lady" everywhere I go.

Lent Update:  I can't buy any of the cute summer stuff at Victoria's Secret now that it's warm enough to wear them, and that sucks!  But I'm staying strong.

Photo Tour: Upstairs

I finally got around to taking pics of the upstairs of our house.
You can see the downstairs photos here.

My Diet, Revisited

Aside from adding in more fruits and vegetables to my diet, I've also added either cookies and/or chips to what I eat every day.  I would like to blame Dale since he likes to keep that crap in the house, but I find myself eating the majority of junk during my afternoon snack.

Here's what my diet looks like so far today:
Breakfast: 3 mini cherry strudels and a handful of bagel bites
Snack: half a cup of coffee and a clementine
Lunch: cheeseburger and small fries
Snack: carrot sticks and poppyseed muffin

WHO AM I?  I don't even like muffins.  I fear my baby has his dad's sweet tooth.

For dinner we are having homemade fish tacos and beef burritos with fresh guacamole.  So at least that can be somewhat healthy after I add all the veggies.

In other news, I am excited about shorts weather.

My front profile hasn't changed right?
Bam!  I'm two people y'all.

5 Months

Baby is the size of a cantaloupe.

Weight: 130 lbs.  I'm up 5 from my pre-pregnancy weight.

Belly: Skin is slightly itchy from the stretching.

Cravings: Milk.

Aversions: None.

Exercise: No running at all last week.

Doctor's Appointments: No checkups/blood tests for another 2 weeks.

Symptoms: Swollen feet. Thank goodness it's finally flip-flop weather.

Best Moments: Being halfway. Holla!

What I Miss: Now that it's spring - wearing small clothes.

Lent Update:  I quit saying "yes" to DP, I'm way to hormonal to be nice to my husband 24/7.  And I stopped running 10 miles/week because I hadn't taken certain factors into consideration - the heat and the extra weight bearing on my lungs and joints.

My Poor Child

It's been hard for me to get excited about shopping for this baby.  There's virtually nothing cute about boys clothing. Dinosaurs and trucks?  No thanks.

But then I found Janie & Jack.  Hello SAILOR!

My husband is going to hate me.

Then & Now

Even though we didn't move into our house until after we got pregnant and married, this isn't the first time we've lived together.  I had bought a house in 2005 and we lived together then, for about a year.  Sometimes I think about how different it was back then.

Then: Frozen pizza and Smirnoff Ice for dinner.
Now: Actual homemade meals, like curry and roti.

Then: A house full of hand-me-down furniture.
Now: Bought our own stuff that we picked out together.

Then: Foil on the master bedroom window to keep the light out.
Now: Adult window coverings like blinds and curtains.

Then: We could barely afford beer.
Now: Beer sits in our fridge for weeks at a time.

Also, everything is SO MUCH EASIER now.  It's easier to pay the bills, do the laundry, keep the house clean, relax in the evenings, and be nice to each other.

19 Weeks

Baby is the size of a mango.

Weight: 130 - up 5 lbs. total.

Belly: I think it got smaller and moved a bit lower.  I'm having more trouble fitting into my pre-pregnancy jeans (I'm down 3 of the tighter pairs so have only 3 in steady rotation) and some of my shirts have gotten so they're short on me.  Thank goodness for VS skirts, tanks, and t's because they are made super long and stretchy.

Cravings: Cookies.  But it doesn't matter, I am eating anything and everything.

Aversions: Nothing.

Exercise: 2.5 mile runs on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Doctor's Appointments: No checkups/blood tests for another 3 weeks.

Symptoms: My rings and shoes have been feeling tight, so I guess swelling.  And freckles.

Best Moments: Nani visiting!  She's so excited and I just feel so loved.  I mean, I know I'm loved, but there's really no love like a gradma's love.

What I Miss: Hanging out, going on dates, being carefree.  I'm over worrying about if I'm doing this right, worrying about money, worrying about getting the house in order.  I miss being able to just chill out for a weekend.  I have a vacation coming up in a month so I'm just going to look forward to that.

Lent Update: Holding my tongue when I want to say nasty things about Repubs have made it a bit easier on me to hold my tongue when I want to say nasty things about anyone/anything else.  I guess being a positive, kinder, more respectful person is good practice for Lent.  No meat on Fridays is hard though, I had already (accidentally) eaten chicken by 10am.

Welcome to my house!  We finally have things in place for the most part.

(And we DO have a bathroom and pantry downstairs, but really, who needs to see that?)

Pregnant Celebrities

It's like the Year of the Trainwreck Pregnant Celebrity.  Unfortunately, I can't judge the fact that none of them are married, but I will judge the fact that 4 out of 5 them have been in a reality show.  And I will add that most of them are hot mams.

And by most, I mean all of them except Snooki.
