Polka Dots and Bows

I think it was barely into the 80s during the day, and at night went down around 73.  Well thank goodness Claire has a pretty summer dress that came with matching leggings for when it gets cold.  I don't know what we would have done.

The kids wanted to play outside, so Ramses went and got on his hoodie and neck-warmer.  I about died.  "But it's FREEZING outside, Aunty."  Okay.  After they came in, they watched YouTube videos on my dad's new smart TV for about an hour.  Mostly Wheels on the Bus and Wild Ones.

The Mirror

After I dress Claire, she immediately runs to the mirror and checks herself out.  And then after I do her pigtails, same thing.  She calls it murmur.  It kills me.

Here's the finished product.  Note the wristbands.

Chuck E. Cheese

I crossed over to the dark side.  I would wrinkle my nose at my mother-in-law every year that Fiori had a birthday party there.  And she would laugh and say, "Just you wait."  I would be like, "Oh hell no. Screaming kids.  Germs.  Never!"  It was my own personal hell and I was very vocal about it.  But now I realize this is one of those wait until you have kids of your own things.

Claire was more interested in the other kids than in Chuck E.  And her favourite game was coincidentally the only game that didn't spit out tickets.  But she had fun and it was kind of cheap date night.  I got the $20 value combo which included a one-topping pizza, 2 fountain drinks, and 15 tokens.  And we honestly had a tough time even using all the tokens.  Plus they stamp you at the door so you can't leave with anyone but your own kid, it's very safe. I had no problems sitting in the booth enjoying my hot pizza while Claire explored the play area on her own.  I had to force her to take 2 bites of pizza the whole time we were there but we both had lunch for the next day so I didn't care.

I think the biggest mistake I made though, was not preparing her for the movement of the car she was so excited to ride in.  And it was the first thing she did.  So she was a tad jumpy after that and didn't want to put any of the tokens in the games herself.

But fret not, she got over it.  And her favourite song came on the radio as we were leaving.  She was exhausted but managed a lazy-man's fistpump.

My Car Got New Shoes

On Thursday morning, I woke up to Claire sleeping peacefully beside me.  I couldn't bring myself to wake her so I jumped in the shower and she woke up on her own and laid there until I came out, and she let me kiss and cuddle her while she whispered "morning Mummy" into my hair.  I love her.  She used the toilet for Number Two and then asked for a bath, where she scrubbed herself with the loofah and washed her hair without me asking.  So it was basically the perfect day.  As a reward because the morning went so seamless, and I was 15 minutes ahead of schedule, I asked Claire if she wanted to go out for breakfast.  So we got in the car and headed down the hill to McDonald's.  When I heard a blast followed by a thud from under my car.

My tire exploded.  Or popped.  (I actually don't even know what happened.)  So I basically sat in my car and we rolled down the hill with my hazards on to the tire shop that was down by McDonald's.  Luckily I was two blocks away because it had already gotten warm and I had the baby, and no spare, plus I wouldn't have messed with that anyway.  I rolled up to the Tire Works and the dude was like, "What can I help you with?"  Claire told him, "Mummy broke car."  Then she proceeded to tell all the mechanics that came in and out of the office that, "Mummy broke car."  She told the old man who came in after us that, "Mummy broke car."  OK CLAIRE.

I bought two new tires and they installed them in minutes, and I was only an hour late to work.  I kind of felt like a rockstar driving after that, it feels good to buy new things.  We went through the McDonald's drive-thru for hashbrowns and when I dropped Claire to school, she walked into her classroom and announced, "Mummy broke car."

Playdate in the Park

Musical Playdate is offered on Wednesday evenings in the park at Town Square.  I was so excited to be able to take Claire to a program like this that caters to working mothers.  And she gets so excited for it, has a blast, then passes out in the car.  Last week, Claire and Julian even made the website!

Here are some pictures from this week's Musical Playdate.

Halloween Decorations

On Sunday morning before football started, I wanted to pick up some Halloween decorations to get in the spirit of fall.  I have always decorated but it's always been my mother's house.  Even last year, I decorated her apartment because they already had cool stuff.  So this year I decided enough was enough and I need to start a collection of my own Halloween things.  So of course, the first stop was for slurpees.

The second stop was the 99 Cents Store and the third was Walmart.  Fourth stop was the liquor store.  Naturally.  Where the kids had to sit down with Mr. Jack Daniels himself.

My little bar-top (I don't have a mantle) turned out pretty cute.  When you take little girls to pick out décor, everything is covered in glitter.  Ramses picked out some creepy skeletons though.  And the kids each got to buy their own little real pumpkins.

Despicable Me 2

I had the kids over on Saturday night for the last Movie in the Park of the summer.  I gave Claire a late nap because her bedtime is 8pm and the movie started at that time.  She was fine though, slept for about an hour while I made dinner.  Then we feasted.

I had homemade chicken tenders with shells and cheese.  It wasn't nuggets and Kraft Dinner, so of course the kids were reluctant to try it.  I don't know why I bother sometimes!  Then they played with an empty cardboard box for an hour after dinner, while I cleaned up and got ready for the movie.

Claire liked the movie - Despicable Me 2 - and the kids liked playing outside after dark.

When we came home, I surprised them all with new pajamas for my house, and the four of them went to bed without a fuss in the guestroom.

When I picked up Claire from school on Monday, there was a sign-up sheet for a Fiesta the kids were having in class.  On Tuesday.  So I put Claire's name down for juice boxes and went to the store.  The next day, luckily Claire's Mexican dress was clean so I could dress her appropriately.  I also put white cheddar popcorn into little baggies for snacks because I don't know how some people would be able to contribute given one day's notice.  (And of course Claire wouldn't pose for a good picture in her dress.)

Haute Doggery!

Tuesdays are locals night at the Linq, the newest Las Vegas entertainment district.  It's on the strip, right where the old Imperial Palace used to be.  (I don't know what happened to IP but DP and I used to go there a lot pre-baby.  You could get rooms for $18/night during the week!)  The Las Vegas Strip is ever-changing I guess.

So I took Claire to get her out of the house, but mostly because I didn't feel like cooking dinner and we had limited groceries at home anyway.  She loves the High Roller and anytime we pass it she tells me that she works there.  Silly baby.

So we parked under the wheel and I pushed Claire in her stroller through the whole area, passing restaurants and bars and quaint boutiques.  There was a lot to take in for the both of us.  At the end, by the strip, was Haute Doggery, and we each had a hotdog and I had a beer for $15 total thanks to locals night.  Not bad.  Claire wanted me to take a picture of her hotdog so I went ahead and took one of hers and mine too.

Windy City Dog
steamed Frank, relish, tomato, onion, dill pickle
sport pepper, and mustard with celery salt

Claire wanted to walk back so she got out a lot of energy trying to run away from me and nearly mowing down tourists.  We got a lot of "who brings a baby to Vegas?" looks but I didn't care because wtf it's Tuesday at 6pm.  Strangely enough it was the showgirls and bar hostesses who loved her and laughed at her antics.  Why are tourists in Vegas so grumpy?  YOU'RE IN VEGAS

We didn't ride the High Roller but spent a lot of time looking at it from below.  I think I want to bring the kids this weekend.  They run a special for families (2 adults and 3 kids, plus juice boxes) on Saturday mornings for $50, but then I noticed that adults are $25 and kids <12 are free, so I'm not sure what the "special" is all about.

I Never Promised You a Rose Garden

I took Claire to Rose Park (that's the actual name of it) in our neighbourhood to try and get spooky Halloween pictures for the annual cards she sends to her cousins.  Well I probably shouldn't have dressed her in a pink ruffled dress, or went on a bright and sunny day.  And I need to wait until the roses are at least dead.  Oops.
