I took down Claire's crib and listed it on Craigslist.
It was very emotional. And frankly, I don't even know what I was thinking because the last thing I needed to be doing on my sick Friday was to traipse up and down my stairs with crib parts, crying every step of the way over my baby-no-more.
Well and I had mentioned the other day how Claire was scared to go into the playroom, and I don't blame her, it's dark in there. And the guest bed takes up a lot of room. And we put her to sleep on her mattress in there so it's not the "fun" space I had intended.
So after taking down her crib, I made her a new playroom. I was so happy to chuck all the baby toys and give her a girly room with floor space for her to actually dump out her blocks. I unveiled it to her on Saturday morning and you would have thought I took her to the candy shop! She was beaming and giggling and running around looking at all her new stuff. I told her to go into her tent and she said, "No...mosters in there," but since I showed her how bright it was inside, she isn't scared anymore.
Next to the kitchen I had set up a couple of tables, one with a "cashbox" and a couple of blank notebooks/pencils for creating menus and taking orders, and one with a tray for expediting the orders. This was for the older kids' benefit so I had to have them over to check out Claire's new room. They ended up spending the whole weekend with me - most of it in this very space. So yay, it was worth it. In fact I had to do their hair and take them to McDonald's just to get them out of the house.
